Kim Mikyung︎︎︎ ( b.1964, Seoul, South Korea) received her MFA in Fine Art and AS in Graphic Design from Parsons School of Design, New York, NY and BA in English Literature from Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, Korea. Her solo and two-person exhibitions have been held at Leeahn Gallery, Daegu, Korea; Datz Press, Seoul, Korea; Gallery 254, Seoul, Korea; Nook Gallery, Seoul, Korea; Gallery b’ONE, Seoul, Korea; Gallery White Birch, Seoul; Alter Ego, Seoul, Korea; Pleiades Gallery, New York, NY; and Amos Eno Gallery, New York, NY. Kim Hyung-dae︎︎︎ (b 1936, Osan, South Korea) graduated Seoul National University College of Fine Arts’ Department of Painting in 1961, and was a Professor of Painting in the Department of Western Paintings at the College of Formative Arts at Ehwa Women’s University from 1977 – 2002. Kim has participated in numerous solo exhibitions, at galleries such as Baahng Gallery, NY; Gana Art, Seoul; Youneun Museum, Kwanju; Shinsegye Art Museum, Seoul; the Press Center Gallery, Seoul; Shiroda Gallery, Tokyo; Gallery Hyundai, Seoul; Andre Zalet Gallery, NY; Elga Wimmer Gallery, Ny, Aggie Arachi, Paris; Manif Hangaram, Seoul; Park Yeoung-deok; Gallery Mareucent, Netherlands; TOTAL Gallery Seoul, 1999 Gallery, Seoul, among others. He has been awarded prizes such as the Kukjeon prize 6 times between 1961-68, the Special Prize of the Chairman of the Supreme Council for National Rehabilitation in 1961, and the Grand Prize in the 2nd Space International Print Grand Prize Competition.


Candice Joo︎︎︎ (b. 1983; Arlington, Virginia) creates paintings and sculptures of chains to explore notions of individuality, collectivity, and the potential powers in each. Joo’s tensely arranged yet tightly interconnected landscapes of chains are where she reimagines ideas of the empowered self and of collective power. Joo received her BFA from the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Select solo exhibitions have been held at Cheongdam Gallery and Punto Blu in Seoul, Korea. Joo’s work has been featured in group shows at Space Sieon in Jeonju, Korea and Jang Cheon Gallery in Seoul, Korea.


Choi Young Wook︎︎︎ is widely known for his painting series Karma, where he has devoted fifteen years to capture the beauty of a traditional Korean vessel: moon jar. Choi has received his MFA and BFA from Hongik University, Korea. Selected recent solo exhibitions have been held in Seoul at the Hong University Museum of Contemporary Art, Gallery Rho, Lotte123, and Banyan Tree Gallery. His work has also been exhibited internationally at Ono Gallery and A-cube Gallery in Tokyo, Art Issue Project in Taipei City, Lotte Gallery in Busan, and Yegam Gallery in New York. Choi’s work has been featured in group shows at the Dong-A Gallery and JJ Jung Jung Gallery in Seoul, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Beijing, Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei City, and Gallery HUUE in Singapore. He has participated in art fairs such as Art Miami, LA Art Show, Chicago International Art Fair, Palm Beach Art Fair, Art Toronto, KIAF, and Art Busan. Choi’s work is included in numerous public and private collections including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Gwacheon, Korea, Luxembourg Monarchy, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Korean Air, The University of Suwon, and SK Group.


Park Young Ha︎︎︎(b. 1954, Seoul, South Korea) is a distinguished Korean painter who has both BFA and MFA degrees from Hong-Ik University, where he subsequently held a professorship. Renowned for his abstract creations, he has garnered several accolades, including the Grand Prize at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea (1988) and the title of Artist of the Year from the Artist Critics Association, Korea (1991). Park has conducted solo exhibits globally, from Seoul to Sydney, and has participated in prominent art fairs like as KIAF and the Shanghai Art Fair. His work of art is included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Korea) and the National Gallery of Australia.


Sungwoo Han︎︎︎ (b. 1984; Seoul, Korea) received his MFA in Painting from Korae National University of Arts, Seoul, Korea and BFA from Korea University, Seoul Korea. His solo exhibition has been held at Place Membrane, Seoul, Korea; Songeun Art Cube, Seoul, Korea; Awon Museum, Jeonju, Korea; Byul-gwan, Seoul, Korea; A-L, Seoul, Korea; On Ground 2, Seoul, Korea; Cheongju Museum of Art, Cheongju, Korea; Space BM, Seoul, Korea; and Willing N Dealing, Seoul, Korea. Minku Kim︎︎︎(b. 1989, Seoul, Korea) is a painter who lives and works in New York City. He was recently the subject of a solo exhibition, ‘Foundation’ at Alexander Berggruen Gallery in Upper East Side, New York, and ’Straight Edge Painting’ at Helen J Gallery in Hollywood, CA. His solo shows include exhibitions at Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco, CA and his paintings have been exhibited in international art fairs such as Art Basel Miami, Park Avenue Armory in New York, and FOG Art and Design in San Francisco, Dallas Art Fair in Texas. Kim’s work has been collected by numerous prestigious private collections in New York, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, Brussel, and around the world. Currently, Kim is working on his first publication of ‘Straight Edge Paintings (2016-2020)’ He earned his MFA in Sculpture from New York Studio School in 2017 and BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012. He attended the Cooper Union Outreach Program, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Summer Seminar, and the New York School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture.



Helen J Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Los Angeles. Specializing in Asian art and design, the gallery features vibrant programming and exhibitions geared towards embracing Asian culture and the diaspora. Our program aims to promote artists from various geographic locations and diverse backgrounds, foster cross-continental dialogue, and broaden the understanding of Asian culture in the Los Angeles area and beyond.
